McKenna turns 7!

McKenna finally turns 7, at least that is the feeling of anticipation she has had for the last month. Myself, on the other hand, is saying the same thing but with wistfulness.  Wow, McKenna is finally 7 . . .
To my surprise, McKenna has held onto the fixation of ladybugs.  We'll never forget how at the end of the summer, we found out she had been "saving" ladybugs for months by bringing them into her room to live in her toy princess castle.  I had no idea, she is very sneaky.
We started the day with her breakfast request of crepes.  We had 3 fillings, Nutella, applesauce and marmalade, all with powdered sugar on top.

Mark made it back from his trip to Africa in the nick of time, he arrived home around 9:00 am and we were to take treats to her class at 11:45. Whew!!  This year we decided to try a healthy birthday treat so we took yogurt parfaits.  Overall it was a success, with very few thumbs down.  McKenna was so proud of trying something different.

Later that evening we had our family party with cake and presents.

McKenna is a huge fan of "Ladybug Girl" which is a series of books written by Jacky Davis and David Soman.  They are so endearing and fun.  I scored this year by finding an actual Ladybug Girl doll, her name is Lucy or McKenna.

Can you believe I found this??  McKenna loves it and has carried them around in her backpack since her birthday.  She even got to share her ladybug knowledge with her fellow 1st graders.  This is serious stuff, but we still giggle at the "pupa" stage.
