On our way home from Bavaria, I begged my family to stop off at Cheimsee so that I could see yet another one of Ludwig's Palaces. Remember that he is the one that tried to build the Neuschwanstein (Cinderella) Palace. I believe this last one completes the set. This particular one, Herrenchiemsee Abby, is patterned after the Versailles Palace in Paris that was done by Louis XIV. Apparently Ludwig had a fascination/scary stalker issue with the Sun God and Louis. The palace is so amazing on the inside and I highly recommend it if you are in the area.
Now back to the begging part. It was not a good weather day, rainy and cold. They type of day you want to stay in your car instead of climbing aboard a boat to go to an island where there is not transportation and you have to walk everywhere (it is not a big island). But because my family loves me, and Chiemsee has been on my list since we got here (have. to. check. off. those. checks.) they gave in and we went. My girls are really good at stomping their feet all the way to the dock. Just for the record, it did stop raining once we were on the boat.
The coolest part about the whole experience was that we got to use our fabulous rain boots! Sweet! Stylish! They even make 2 stomping girls look good. Mark can't even be contained in the photo because of his lack of rain boots. I could now say it was worth the space they took up the whole entire week when we didn't even need them.
You know what that lady is thinking right? "Oh brother, just another one of those silly American men who giggle whenever they see my fabulous form" You can just hear her right? I mean look at the way her right hand is just trying to shoo him away. Silly boy.
There were two fountains outside the palace that were pretty impressive and had a lot going on. Lot's of stories. But my favorite one is the story of the fountain in the picture above of just Bailey and I. I don't remember details and am too lazy (or as McKenna would say "lousy") to look it up. Apparently the people cut off the goddesses water supply (seriously? you don't mess with Gods let alone their Goddesses). So she got mad and turned them into frogs. The people around the outside of the fountain are right in the middle of changing. McKenna was mesmerized by this and we had to look at each one and pick out what part was human, what part was frog.

Cool! The grounds really look just like Versailles!
Yes that was crazy how the weather turned on a dime just for us to enjoy that palace. I was so glad to see it after seeing Versailles, and was glad you could see it and get a taste of the original palace. It ended up being another of our favorite days!
Seriously, Leslie... You and Bailey look like TWINS! Tell her to stop growing up before I get a chance to see her again!
I love all of the fountains! So creative and fun. I really can't tell you how much I envy you.
Where are you going next?
