While looking for a theme for McKenna's birthday this year, we started by having her choose a cake. She fell in love with this lady bug cake and I just went crazy from there. Thanks to my mom and mother in law for sending me lady bug requests from the states. Mom helped me get a lady bug costume for McKenna to wear to the party.
This was McKenna's first birthday where we threw a party and let her invite friends. Other birthdays were spent just with the family. I tried to do the old fashioned type of birthday that I remember as a child. Right when the guests arrived we gave them a set of antennae to wear and sent them to the ladybug tattoo station. We played games. I did musical chairs but instead of chairs we used lady bug dots and I found ladybug songs on iTunes. We played a Gardner game where the kids had to act like insects from the garden, bees, frogs, birds and such. Then we played "lady bug says", just like Simon Says.
Then it was onto singing Happy Birthday, eating cake and ice cream and opening presents. McKenna was in 6 year old heaven. It was just the right age to do a party with friends, they were old enough to understand the games and follow directions and McKenna was old enough to remember it.
Mark continues to be such a good sport, year after year. A man's man surrounded by girlie girls!

McKenna you make a cute Ladybug, that was so much fun to watch you blow out the candles on the cake. Glad I could be there via Skype!

Happy Birthday McKenna! Leslie you did such a great job making an unforgettable birthday-I love it! I wish I was there. I can't believe how the girls are growing up-Mckenna looks like such a big girl and what a beauty Bailey is (I know I always say that, but I'm always thinking of it when I see her).
Adorable Leslie! I like the old fashion birthday parties too. I do simple games and have cake and it is great! Enjoy the 6 year old. It is such a fun age!
I looked at all your pics through FB. Reminds me of Sabrina's ladybug party when she was 6. I went a little overboard too...cute stuff, though. She still remembers it...
What more could a little Lady Bug want! McKenna looks like she is in heaven. Nice job Leslie that cake is adorable! So much fun!
