Well, thanks to the great "book club" website www.goodreads.com I was able to find out that there was another book, The Diplomat's wife, written by this same author, Pam Jenoff. Tried with all my might to get it at the library but to no avail so I bit the bullet and ordered through Amazon. Thankfully Amazon pulled through and delivered it very timely (now let's just hope they do the same with "Breaking Dawn" the final of the Twilight series, I pre-ordered it even!)
I really liked this book. Again, just like the first, I couldn't put it down and had to stay awake until the end. Thankfully this time it was only 2:00 am. Learned my lesson the last time and started earlier. Doesn't matter that my kids had cold cereal for dinner so that I could read while pouring milk. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this book is a continuation of the first book in that it takes a supporting character from the first story and follows her tale through the end of the war and the fallout from it. It is full of the emotional roller coaster, with high highs and low lows. Couple of parts are a little far fetched but I'll give some slack. Plus the bonus is that you get to find out what happened to Emma from the first book. I'm so intrigued with this period of time, don't know if it is because I'm living at the heart of where this history took place, or if somehow I'm still trying to understand how the unimaginable came to pass.
So for those of you out there looking for a good read, start with these two (Kommandant's Girl and then The Diplomat's Wife), you will not be disappointed and I might suggest carving out a chunk of "me time" to thoroughly enjoy the ride. If I know my friends well, and I think I do, most of you have some summertime road trips up ahead. Get these books, let your husband do the driving (lets face it, they need to drive to feel manly), put headphones on the children or duct tape on their mouths (you know I'm kidding . . . right?!) and hunker down for two great stories.

well, since you mentioned twilight-- I started the series last week and am almost done with new moon CAN'T STOP READING!!!!!!
I LOVED Twilight. I just finished the first 2 and I am about to start Eclipse. I finished the others so quickly though that I think that maybe I should hold off a little on reading Eclipse because there is no doubt that I would finish it in a few days, and then I will have to wait that much longer for Breaking Dawn. At the same time, I can't wait to read it. What do you think? This book that you mention sounds intriguing, but I am not sure if it is for me. I am not really into period books, but who knows? If it is something really good, I am sure anythings possible.
yeah.. I am your match I read it in one day too! So have you read the Kommadants girl now? And oh yeah, oh yeah Breaking Dawns a coming.. oh yeah.. hey I miss ya!
