Eventful Weekend

Boy did we have a busy weekend. The girls had many activities and we had so much fun watching them accomplish their goals. We started with Bailey at her school. The book character parade is an annual event where the kids dress up like their favorite character. This year Bailey chose Nim from Nim's Island. They paraded through the streets with the school band in the lead and we cheered her on!
Bailey ran for the Armed Forces Kid's Run. Mark joined her as they ran 1 mile to the finish line. She was nervous she wouldn't be able to finish but she crossed with flying colors. She earned a T-shirt and the feeling of accomplishing a difficult task, plus the adrenaline helped too.

Next we were able to see McKenna put on a big show with her gymnastics class. This might seem like a regular kiddo thing but in McKenna's world this was a huge accomplishment. The first half of the season was spent crying and clinging to my legs not wanting to participate and get out of her comfort zone. Comfort zone = no other kids . . . at all! But through consistency, encouragement and lots of lollipop rewards she did it. As we walked into the gym I was so afraid she would freeze and not be able to do it but boy was I wrong! She even received a trophy for her efforts that she has been carrying around ever since.

I am trying to load a video of her gymnastics but I am having technical difficulty . . . meaning I don't know what I am doing! Check back later to see if I figured it out!

And finally, we were able to spend a nice Sunday afternoon with good friends and good food. We had the Hammons and the Smiths over to eat Kristine's now infamous fish taco's. I love that feeling when you can watch all the kids playing together and they are getting along and having fun and giggling is the only thing that comes out of their mouths. Probably helped that they found my stash of treats in the pantry, but oh well.

What a great weekend kudos to both Bailey and McKenna on their accomplishments. Bailey I don't think I ran a whole mile until I was in 8th grade way to go! McKenna your gym skills are great nice summer salts and focus on the balance beam.

What a fun weekend! Abbey just ran the mile at her school last week. It's so amazing what the kids can do. The book character parade looks so fun! Do they have the whole school do that or just one grade? What were some of the other characters?

Abbey is wondering if Bailey has gotten her letter in the mail. I hope it got there okay!

Sara, yes the whole school joins in the parade and all the children are encouraged to dress up and carry their book. We had lots of Harry Potter this year. Some star wars with a few princesses mixed in. Bailey just mailed a letter to Abbey earlier this week, so be on the look out! Took us a bit since we have been traveling. This weekend we'll pick her up a postcard and send that too!
