Defending himself!

We defend ourselves all the time over lots of things but this week my dear husband defended 2+ years of sweat, tears and punishment to the dungeon office where he wrote his dissertation.  If you have been following my blog at all you knew we were heading to this important day. It was Monday and it was good!  His committee signed off on it and even gave him extra kuddos by encouraging Mark to publish it, it was that good.  I could have told them that. Bailey could have told them that. McKenna could have yelled them that.

I think Bailey said it best when I shared the news with her.  She jumped up from the table and said, "Yippee, now we get our Dad back".  We are so proud of our Doctor, Doctor Frandsen that is.  And did I mention that we can now call him a number of things, Doc, Dr., Doctor, man with PhD, the Bass Doctor, enlisted guy with the most education. EVER. ;) but the best thing we can call him now is accomplished.  We are so proud of you!

While Mark was defending himself in Texas, the girls and I have been defending ourselves against the elements of Germany.  This winter has been a Utah winter which says a lot.  On Monday I called a snow day way before the KMC decided it for sure.  They spent the better half of the morning sending out mixed signals of frustration.  We just sat back in PJ's and waited until the sun came up, then the girls conquered yet another field of snow.  Which is why my smokin' new zoom lens came in handy.  Took this shot from inside the warm house. . . from far, far away, where, did I mention, I was warm?

Today was even worse, first time ever that the road conditions were upgraded to black.  Never in my life have I experienced black ice like we saw today.  Basically everyone slid to work and school.  When we approached base we saw a gate guard fall in front of a bus and our gate guard slid to the car then grabbed my door to balance himself.  Then I get to work with an email stating Germany is experiencing a major salt shortage.  Not my idea of a good time, but we were let go a bit early and are home safe and sound for the evening.

Super sick of winter. It makes me hurt, physically and mentally.  It is beautiful, but only when I'm viewing it from inside my house with slippers on my feet and a mug of hot chocolate in my hands.  But even still, nothing can ruin the feeling of happiness being sent from Texas from my very own Dr. Frandsen.

Thanks for the great post and the even greater support I have had from my girls! Wish I could be home earlier to share in the snow day. I love and miss you and will see you soon.

I want to congratulate Mark(My Son)on such a great job with his defense and the dissertation itself. I am nearly finished reading it and am able to understand most of it except for the technical stuff with my limited knowledge. It was so exciting to be able to listen to the very scholarly discussion and input from the committee members. Mark truly knows his stuff when it comes to his music. I am having a hard time controlling my pride and appreciation for such a great job by Mark. I have always had confidence in his abilities but this is a crowning achievement in his long fought educational efforts. Again, congratulations on a job well done. Dad Frandsen

A huge Congrats to MARK! That is wonderful.

And just so you know, you can always call him a "Post Hole Digger." This is what my Dad likes to call Lee to bug him. HA!

Way to go Dr. Mark! We had full confidence that you could do this and do it with total success. Now go get your self published you've earned that!

I feel your pain with winter this year Leslie. My big belly is keeping me from enjoying the things that make me sane in the winter and it's not easy. So boo to old man winter from me too.

Congratulations Mark!!! I am so proud of you! You have worked so hard for this.

CAN NOT WAIT to see you all in just a few months. By then it will be spring and the flowers will be coming up and Great Grandpa will have the garden rocks he got for his birthday last year out in the flower beds...

I have decided that snow is good this year though... It's the only time we have clear air that can not be smelled or tasted. And we get to see the mountains when it snows! Looks like the girls are having a blast though...

Stay warm, and again, Mark - WAY TO GO!!!!

Love you all,

Aunt Laurie

We all know about that father in law /son in law banter. Leslies dads favorite story is "We sent our daughter to collage and she drug home this wannabe rock star, geetar player" This week he goes to coffee w/ the guys and says " you know my RockStar son in law well you can call him Dr. Frandsen now, as his snaps pop open on his shirt. Mark your last hurtle is to convince him there is a difference in a guitar & a bass. Love to all
