McKennaism: Words of Wisdom?

My friend Mike took these pictures of McKenna at the talent show last weekend. Makes me want to run right out and get a huge zoom lens like his. That way I can back off and let the child play. I love the candid shots. She is such a ham when I'm not in her face telling her to "smile, but not like that, smile, but not that much, smile but don't show your teeth, think of something funny, look at me, don't look at me . . .". I'm running out of ways to get her to flirt with my camera.

I thought these picture's would go great with my next issue of McKennaism's. While riding home from church on Sunday I take the opportunity to talk to my children. After all, they are strapped in, held hostage with no where to go and have spent the last 3 hours being told to be quiet and reverent. Heck, by the time I get out of church I feel like yelling out and doing a celebratory jig in the parking lot! Why not talk?

McKenna's lesson was about the Word Of Wisdom which is a scripture passage about how to take care of our bodies. She is showing me a picture of a boy's head, he looks a little nervous as he is looking at the things we should not put in our bodies. I'm driving, I can't see this picture as the conversation continues.

Mom, "McKenna, what things are bad for your body"

McKenna in her most authoritative voice, "Well, sticks for instance because they will scratch your belly"

Mom and Bailey, "What?" And then we find out she is referencing cigarettes. Now I'm getting it, she is making this up as she goes.

Mom, "What else is bad for our bodies?"

McKenna, "Hot things, because they burn our bodies. We shouldn't put our body into the coffee" I wonder, did she really listen during class?

Mom, "Okay, what else"

McKenna, "Coca Cola Light"

Mom, "Okay, who told you to say that?" It is obvious to me that someone is setting me up and it is oh so funny. Har Har. Because once I can stop and look at the actual picture that she is referencing, it is a bottle that has "XXX" across it. She could have said poison, alcohol, Dr. Pepper, medicine, prune juice but oh no, she pulled the Diet Coke slam. Someone will be held accountable . . .

Kristine, are you secretly channeling my children????

What a fun way to use the pictures! I think you do need a zoom lens, they're pretty cool. Now on to the diet coke comment...that's just plain wrong. She's pretty smart when it comes to the sticks part. :-)

Thats hillarious! I'm so glad you're putting all of these Mckenna-isms on the blog-not only so all of us can enjoy them-but so you have them documented for future entertainment. What a ham she is!

Okay, as McKenna's Primary teacher I have to say that I DIDN'T coach her with the whole Diet Coke thing. Which I happen to think is REALLY funny! ;) I DID however tell my class that I LOVE the taste of Dr. Pepper, but that I decided last summer that I wasn't going to drink it any more. That's just my personal choice. She is quite the HAM though! Too funny! Thanks for sharing this with me! :)

OK! I am here! Yes you could say I was channeling.. ah hum.. well you know how I feel on the subject of "Hard Substances" such as that Diet stuff.. but I to must admit ever so often I hunker down for a "classic" coke.. so I guess I can't curve your appetite by example.. BUT LADY!!!! I want you to live!!!! (this is me in my oh so sarcastic voice with the biggest smile and then hefty laugh afterward..) I want you to experience the freedom from the can!! Ah ha! So there! I am off of my box.. now back to that cute girl with the ever so eloquent sticks cutting your belly and dipping your body in hot coffee.. she is and always will be a doll but those stills of her are showing off that girls beauty.. she is beautiful and that personality only make it more so!! I miss you so much!! And sorry it took me so long to check in.. Happy Mothers day my lovely friend!!
