Once upon a time there was a girl named Bailey. At the age of 5 she found that one of her teeth became very loose and this concerned her greatly. How could it not? Loosing a body part is not appealing at any age. One morning she crept into her parent's bedroom while they were still sleeping and woke them up with her concerns. Her parents, not yet realizing her determination and bravery (and the fact that a loose tooth is really bothersome to her) asked if she would like them to pull it out for her. Of course she responded with a loud, "NO WAY". So the suggestion was made, "why don't you do it yourself?" Her parents encouraged her to go into the bathroom and use the mirror to pull it out herself, never believing she would actually go through with it.
So she marched into the bathroom. Little did her naive parents know that once again, she is determined. The house became very quiet and still and then, a sound from the bathroom, a dull thunk. Her parents looked at each other and wondered what the sound was. Because her mother was fully pregnant and therefore could only move at the pace of a snail, her father was pushed out of the warm bed to check on their daughter.
What he found was a pile of a little girl on the floor, passed out cold. Her father carried her into the bedroom where they had a difficult time getting her to wake up. She vomited and became white as a ghost and the rest of the day was spent in the ER making sure that she didn't hit her head in the bathroom when she was on her way "out".
Later that day, the tooth came out, the tooth fairy came and life goes on. BUT fast foward in life to a couple of days ago, Bailey, who is now 10 and continuing to loose those precious teeth, sat down to breakfast and stated that she had a loose tooth and couldn't eat anything. Her mother suggested once again (do we ever learn these lessons in life?) go to the bathroom and try to pull it out if it is bugging you so bad. Bailey got up, went to the bathroom, yanked out the tooth and with a mouthful of blood calmly stated, "It's out". No big deal, no white face, no vomiting, no fainting and no trips to the ER. Bailey was just happy to be able to eat her breakfast and get on to school. Just another day at the office . . .
