Merry Christmas!
So the conversation in the car between McKenna and I went a little like this: "Mommy, I think I need to meet this man Santa Claus" Mom says, "Why do you need to meet him?" McKenna says, "Well, he has a really big belly and seems to be important" After I finished chuckling (quiet enough that she couldn't hear because after all, this was an important conversation) I got to thinking that McKenna does not have a picture of herself sitting on Santa's lap! How could I have let 3 years go by without this image permanetly set on paper for her to look at as the years come?! Well, let's see, we moved, then moved again, oh and when we moved we came to a country that doesn't have malls with Santa's in the courtyard. STILL, I decided then and there that this year she wouldn't miss out. Luckily Santa just happened to be visiting the community center this week and so we went. McKenna and Bailey both were thrilled to see Santa and share with him the wishes of their hearts. And then I got my wish, the traditional Christmas photos of my girls on Santa's lap with their big beautiful smiles! Each of my girls shared a couple of their thoughts on the experience that I found so funny, first, McKenna was so concerned with the question of whether Santa had socks on under his boots. His feet will get cold if he doesn't have socks on. And she is so entranced by the beard, she kept saying as she pointed all over her face in a big round circle, "He has hair ALL OVER his face!" Bailey was confused by the fact that his eyebrows weren't white like his hair. This just didn't make sense, so then she came to the conclusion that it was actually an elf helping Santa by taking all the wishes back to the North Pole. Santa is just too busy right now to talk to every child. She was really okay with this, she trusts that the elf will do his job right. As I tucked them into bed tonight I think their smiles were a little bigger and I imagine their dreams will be a touch more magical. Aaaahh Christmas!
